We’re just full of the fashion controversies this week, aren’t we! There a boat load of trends from the 1980′s that really needs to just stay there. Some of these include out-of-the bottle bleached hair, scrunchies, shoulder pads and parachute pants. Sometimes, you’re just grateful when trends are dead, gone and buried! Of course, I might be eating my words next year when some fashion designer I adore decides that their entire collection will be based around the concept of one-size-fits all (another dud trend from that era). But there is one trend that I’ve sort of embraced, and that’s the beloved crop top.
Unlike the high waisted look, crop tops can be worn by a much larger demographic, as long as they’re done properly. There are definitely some ladies out there, roaming the world, wearing crop tops who probably shouldn’t, and it’s probably only because they don’t know how to. But this isn’t a post about who should and who shouldn’t wear something! This is a post about how to wear a particular trend, and make it look good! So here are some things to consider when you want to rock the crop top:
Pick Your Length
Look, not all of us are into the whole belly-baring-babe thing, including myself. I might have been a little less shy a decade ago, but these days, I’m not all that comfortable with it. So there are two ways you can go with this. You can strut your stuff in a mini-crop, where the hemline falls just above the navel and you get to show off that cute little belly button piercing. Or, you can go a little more conservative, yet still keep the crop look, by going with a crop top that just touches the waistline of your jeans. You still flash a little skin here and there, but won’t feel like you’re working at Hooters.
Rock a Contrast Tank
Another option for you less-is-more ladies is to throw on tank. Pick a bright color, or just a subtle contrast color. Or, if you still want the illusion of bare-all-midriff, pick a tank that’s a nude color.
Pair it With High Waisted Pants
Gasp! Though you might have gotten the impression that I’m not a champion for the high waisted trend, but I do think there is a time and a place, and this isĀ one of them! A loose crop top, and a pair of high rise jeans can look super chic. Not only will the high waist accentuate your curves, but the crop will balance out your top half beautifully.
Rock the Crop Jacket Instead
If you’re still not down with rocking a crop top, but you like the design idea, than go with a cute little crop jacket. This is definitely something that anyone can wear. Throw a crop denim jacket on with your favorite maxi, or make your look uber chic, and go with a crop blazer, a silk camisole and your favorite pair of trousers.
So if you’ve always thought that this is a trend that you can’t pull off, think again! With all of the different styling options, anyone can rock the crop!

I would go with a more conservative look..So a Crop top to the waist of my jeans..Also I might add a simple belt that goes around the crop top one that matches your Jeans or Shoes..
Excellent ideas! You could rock a crop in the autumn months, just layer up!
